John Bostock proves his worth to Andy Butler as Doncaster take three points

By Rovers Reporter Zak Armitage.

29-year-old midfielder John Bostock put in a performance of the highest order on Tuesday night as Doncaster Rovers edged past Portsmouth to put an end to their bad run of form.

It proved to be an excellent start to life for newly appointed manager Andy Butler whose side played some excellent football on the night, dominating large periods of the game.

There were a handful of standout performers on the night for Rovers whose performances will have impressed new manager Butler, but the most impressive was from former-Tottenham man Bostock, who caused Portsmouth all sorts of difficulties on the evening.

Portsmouth struggled to stop the midfielder who assisted the first Doncaster goal of the evening with a defence-splitting pass which put Reece James through on goal.

Bostock seemed keen to prove his worth to Butler on Tuesday and that was reflected in his performance with the Camberwell midfielder heavily involved in proceedings.

He arrived at the Keepmoat Stadium back in January on an 18-month deal and has proved to be a real coup for Doncaster, bringing experience and undoubted quality to the Rovers midfielder.

As Andy Butler steps up to his new role with Rovers as manager he will need senior players he can rely on and Bostock certainly brings that, as well as excellent pedigree having featured in the top divisions of Football in Belgium, France, USA and Turkey respectively.

Having a player of his calibre will prove to be crucial for Butler, and if the new Rovers manager can keep his star midfielder firing on all cylinders he could prove to be crucial in Doncaster's bid to make the play-offs come the summer.
